Historic Weston, Inc. will:
Preserving the rural nature of our Town Center and maintaining the historic Old Library and Josiah Smith Tavern are paramount. Initial plans will include public funding from Weston’s CPA. All renovation or maintenance will be completed on a more cost-effective and flexible schedule, and will be subject to zoning by-laws and permitting. Absent the shackles of public ownership, management of the Josiah Smith Tavern and Old Library will be free from various cumbersome regulations such as “prevailing wage”, public bid, etc.
Placed in the hands of Historic Weston, Inc., a community-wide non-profit organization comprised of concerned Weston residents, and guided by a dedicated Board of Advisors, this historic property will be given new life. With committed volunteers contributing time and talent, along with financial support from those who deem this property historically unique and worthy of preservation, the Josiah Smith Tavern and Old Library will prosper and continue to be available for use by many generations to come.
- Assist in the conveyance of an interest in the real property;
- Prepare, submit and present an application to Weston town agencies with regard to the development and to provide other services as requested to obtain the necessary permits and approvals regarding such development;
- Represent, negotiate and otherwise assist in the creation of the legal and administrative framework and structures necessary to form a development partnership;
- Prepare and present proposals for the design and construction of the preservation and rehabilitation of the Old Library and Josiah Smith Tavern;
- Provide any other related services, as necessary to complete the project.
